About the handbook
Origin
The Handbook began as internal reference material: protocol notes kept while writing deployment guides, with the vocabulary definitions every writer kept re-deriving. The notes proved useful to people outside the team, and the decision to publish them was simple.
Editorial rules
- Specs over opinions. Where the handbook states behaviour, it names the protocol or standard that makes it true.
- Limits get equal space. Every technology section records what it does not do.
- No provider endorsements. The handbook earns nothing from your choice and recommends none.
- No software here. Nothing is hosted, mirrored, or distributed on this domain.
Maintenance
Reviewed at each edition tick. Corrections from readers are applied with the next review; substantive ones sooner. The address is listed here.
